Analytical thinking – Governors need to solve problems quickly and effectively to make sure the school runs as efficiently as possible. As a governor, you’ll challenge the status quo by analysing the best processes for the school and asking challenging questions. These are all skills that can enhance how you perform in your day job, and the specific expertise and experience of ICAEW members can bring valuable insight to a school’s governing body.
Splitting – The practice of regarding people and situations as either one thing or another, for instance completely “good” or completely “bad”. Rather than seeing the subtlety, the mix of attributes that any situation really has. #91 Domestic Theft – Stealing or taking things which don’t belong to them, without the agreement of the person to whom they do belong. #86 Misplaced Anger – People often feel a sense of unresolved anger and a heightened or exaggerated perception that they have been wronged, invalidated, neglected or abused. #85 Avoidance – The practice of withdrawing from relationships with other people as a defensive measure to reduce the risk of rejection, accountability, criticism or exposure. #81 Bullying – Any systematic action of hurting a person from a position of relative physical, social, economic or emotional strength.
In some forms it’s relatively harmless, such as a Personality Disordered person believing their own likes, dislikes, feeling, opinions or beliefs actually belong to another person. As these Identity Disturbances blur the lines between the self and others, sometimes people with Personality Disorders will attribute their own personal and psychological characteristics to others. Projection – The act of attributing one’s own feelings or traits to another person and imagining or believing that the other person has those same feelings or traits. Then the USP’s, several relevant stories and the value proposition focused on the client within the body of the presentation. Finally a power summing up slide at the end asking for the business and explaining why it should be us, compared to the competition. I reminded my client that they needed to rehearse the presentation with their local Doha colleagues the day before and clearly define the roles, seating plan and who was going to control the meeting. Firstly make sure you have defined, in laser focused terms, the objectives of the presentation and the outcome you want. Then prepare your presentation and the slides.
When my father dies, I’m forced to go home to bury him. At least I’ll finally be rid of his farm, which is grown over and tangled with memories I’ve fought to forget. She’s even more beautiful than I remember and has the most adorable kid I’ve ever seen. Years have passed, but my feelings are the same, and this time I refuse to let her go. They say you can’t bury the past, and they’re right. Not the best book I’ve ever read but it was okay.
WIIFM – What’s in it for me – Strawberries and Cream or Worms? You may feel there is a lot at stake, and prefer to see only those things which support your preferred outcome. You may feel a “tug of war” tension between your heart and your head. Usually, the higher the stakes, the stronger your emotional bias will be. Relationships between Personality-Disordered individuals (PD’s) and Nons are often strongly emotionally charged. What each person believes about the other, and how they interpret each other’s behavior, can be influenced by a Confirmation bias. Understanding how this “blind spot” tendency affects human behavior can help explain how some dysfunctional relationships stay that way.
They may try to break those relationships by making up shocking or accusing stories about either the non-personality-disordered (Non-PD) individual – or about the person the Non-PD is trying to befriending. The Non-PD may face consequences or punishments as a result of making or maintaining contact with a person who is not on thean “approved” list. Remove yourself and any children from any conversation which becomes verbally abusive or if a person refuses to stop talking after you have asked them. Objectively weigh the validity of any accusations you receive off-line when you are in a safe place with time to think. Try to see past the questionable “facts” to understand the feeling that is being communicated.
Or the type of projects they worked on in their previous role? By identifying the key ‘pros’ of past hires, businesses can form a profile, which allows their recruiters to better vet any future candidates and their qualifications. So I picked her up at 6.20 am off the Washington flight at Heathrow on Monday and drove her to Wimborne, to stay with her friends. Others might say Wow – so she was in your car for two hours, what did you learn and what ideas did you get? The answer is an amazing amount, which I will share in later briefings. ————- Win Win in Foyles in Waterloo last week, next to “Rock your Presentations”. I just had to take a photo of it as it reminded me that your pitch and your presentations have to be first class to get the clients interested or you will never get to the negotiation table to close the deal.

Disorientating, overwhelming, intense on every level, it can leave you questioning everything you thought you knew about yourself. There are a million different ways to be a mother, yet the vision we see in books, on screen and online overwhelmingly fails to represent this commonplace yet extraordinary experience for most of us. Lenka Janiurek’s story really begins with the death of her mother when she was nine. She is the daughter of a Polish immigrant father, and one of eight children.
But I said, “But you’re here because you want to move this stuff forward, right? I propose that the way to move that forward is this and this and this.” That’s me taking on leadership that perhaps she could have taken on. But, seeing the way that I presented that she was actually, she’s going to get me what I want.
